The key domestic indices closed slightly lower. Nifty Private Bank, Nifty Bank and Nifty Healthcare Index shares advanced, while Nifty Media and Nifty Metal shares declined.

As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, lost 307.24 points or 0.40% to 76,957.27. The Nifty 50 index edged lower by 95.25 points or 0.39% to 24,080.40. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex drifted lower by 0.53% and 0.67%, respectively.

The broader market outperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index inched down 0.23% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index posted modest losses of 0.74%.

The market breadth was soft. On the BSE, 2111 shares gained and 3070 shares retreated. A total of 236 shares were unchanged.

Eternal Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 2721.52 lakh shares and recorded a sharp spurt of 768.03% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has jumped by around 6.37% in last one-month and has climbed 3.96% over last one year.

HDFC Bank Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 781.57 lakh shares and posted a sharp rise of 237.09% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has shed around 2.05% in last one-month and has tumbled 24.80% over last one year.

The Nifty Private Bank index gained modestly by 0.97% to 28005.75 today. The index is marginally higher by 0.53% in last one week and has edged up 1.67% over last one month. It has edged higher by 6.38% in last one year. Federal Bank Ltd (up 3.62%), IDFC First Bank Ltd (up 3.43%), Yes Bank Ltd (up 3.30%), Axis Bank Ltd (up 2.77%) and IndusInd Bank Ltd (up 2.27%) advanced.

The Nifty Bank index inched up by 0.92% to 58024.95 today. The index is down 0.46% in last one week and has inched higher by 1.31% over last one month. It edged up by 6.83% in last one year. Federal Bank Ltd (up 3.62%), IDFC First Bank Ltd (up 3.43%), Yes Bank Ltd (up 3.30%), Axis Bank Ltd (up 2.77%) and IndusInd Bank Ltd (up 2.27%) moved higher.

The Nifty Media index tumbled 2.84% to 1557.35 today. The index is modestly lower by 0.61% in last one week and has risen slightly by 2.84% over last one month. It has edged lower by 0.21% in last one year. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (down 7.81%), Network 18 Media & Investments Ltd (down 5.45%), Saregama India Ltd (down 2.62%), Prime Focus Ltd (down 2.41%) and Sun TV Network Ltd (down 1.76%) moved down.

The Nifty Metal index shed 2.45% to 13193.9 today. The index has surged by 2.68% in last one week and has gained 9.07% over last one month. It soared by 46.85% in last one year. Adani Enterprises Ltd (down 9.76%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd (down 4.27%), National Aluminium Company Ltd (down 3.41%), Vedanta Ltd (down 3.39%) and Steel Authority of India Ltd (down 2.50%) declined.

The Nifty Healthcare Index index rose for a third session in a row today. Aurobindo Pharma Ltd (up 4.36%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (up 3.37%), Max Healthcare Institute Ltd (up 2.76%), Divis Laboratories Ltd (up 2.47%) and Mankind Pharma Ltd (up 1.52%) moved up.
