The key domestic indices closed slightly lower. Nifty Media, Nifty Realty and Nifty Chemicals shares rose, while Nifty IT and Nifty Consumer Durables shares retreated.

As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, inched down 329.91 points or 0.44% to 74,529.08. The Nifty 50 index edged lower by 85.30 points or 0.36% to 23,329.

The broader market performed better than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index edged higher by 0.02% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index lost 0.25%.

The market breadth was soft. On the BSE, 2432 shares gained and 2800 shares declined. A total of 219 shares were unchanged.

HDFC Bank Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 354.84 lakh shares and posted a modest rise of 1.79% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has risen slightly by around 1.73% in last one-month and has dropped sharply 23.30% over last one year.

Eternal Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 222.77 lakh shares and saw a sharp spurt of 24.68% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has climbed 2.41% in last one-month and has drifted lower 1.74% over last one year.

Index action

The Nifty Media index inched up by 1.21% to 1574.7 today. The index has soared by 3.46% in last one week and has eased by 3.52% over last one month. It eased by 4.38% in last one year. Sun TV Network Ltd (up 7.11%), Saregama India Ltd (up 3.10%), Prime Focus Ltd (up 1.36%), Nazara Technologies Ltd (up 0.87%) and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (up 0.68%) gained.

The Nifty IT index inched down by 0.86% to 28582.1 today. The index has declined by 2.45% in last one week and has retreated 5.57% over last one month. It declined sharply by 18.79% in last one year. LTM Ltd (down 2.84%), Persistent Systems Ltd (down 1.52%), Mphasis Ltd (down 1.36%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (down 1.11%) and Infosys Ltd (down 0.88%) fell.

The Nifty Consumer Durables index edged lower by 0.64% to 37962.2 today. The index is slightly higher by 0.65% in last one week and has declined 5.85% over last one month. It is down 2.28% in last one year. Voltas Ltd (down 3.62%), PG Electroplast Ltd (down 3.05%), Blue Star Ltd (down 2.56%), Dixon Technologies (India) Ltd (down 1.99%) and Kajaria Ceramics Ltd (down 1.41%) went down.

European markets edged higher.

DOW futures are edging higher by 0.35% today.

MCX Crude oil futures are firmly lower by 2.44% at Rs 8839.0 per barrel.

NIFTY50 futures ended modestly lower by 0.15% at 23410 and are in a premium of 81 points compared to NIFTY50.
