The key domestic indices closed on a positive note. Nifty Pharma, Nifty Healthcare Index and Nifty Realty shares gained, while Nifty Private Bank and Nifty Bank shares fell.

As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, edged lower by 21.86 points to 74,314.59. The Nifty 50 index up 53 points to 23,270.60. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex eased by 0.54% and 0.62%, respectively.

The broader market performed better than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index gained 0.83% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index rose 0.93%.

The market breadth was healthy. On the BSE, 3150 shares advanced and 2035 shares declined. A total of 202 shares were unchanged.

Tata Steel Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 293.98 lakh shares and registered a sharp decline of 7.21% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has slipped by around 1.61% in last one-month and has posted strong gains of 6.38% over last one year.

Eternal Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 275.43 lakh shares and recorded a sharp increase of 68.04% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has edged lower 0.31% in last one-month and has fallen 3.15% over last one year.

Index action

The Nifty Pharma index increased by 1.66% to 26579.25 today. The index has declined by 2.04% in last one week and has edged lower 0.74% over last one month. It rallied by 17.43% in last one year. Alkem Laboratories Ltd (up 3.35%), Dr Reddys Laboratories Ltd (up 3.07%), Gland Pharma Ltd (up 2.87%), Aurobindo Pharma Ltd (up 2.86%) and Lupin Ltd (up 2.60%) advanced.

The Nifty Healthcare Index index moved up by 1.56% to 16529.15 today. The index is lower by 1.85% in last one week and has posted modest losses of 0.94% over last one month. It has gained 10.90% in last one year. Alkem Laboratories Ltd (up 3.35%), Dr Reddys Laboratories Ltd (up 3.07%), Aurobindo Pharma Ltd (up 2.86%), Lupin Ltd (up 2.60%) and Zydus Lifesciences Ltd (up 2.49%) rose.

The Nifty Private Bank index moved lower by 0.42% to 27169.2 today. The index is up 0.26% in last one week and has inched lower by 0.10% over last one month. It is up around 1.32% in last one year. Federal Bank Ltd (down 2.65%), HDFC Bank Ltd (down 1.18%), Yes Bank Ltd (down 1.15%), ICICI Bank Ltd (down 0.82%) and Bandhan Bank Ltd (down 0.58%) declined.

The Nifty Bank index eased by 0.42% to 56055.75 today. The index remained flat in last one week and has slipped by 2.10% over last one month. It edged up by 2.08% in last one year. Federal Bank Ltd (down 2.65%), HDFC Bank Ltd (down 1.18%), Yes Bank Ltd (down 1.15%), Bank of Baroda (down 1.14%) and ICICI Bank Ltd (down 0.82%) fell.

Global Markets

European markets edged higher.

DOW futures are scarcely higher by 0.41% today.

MCX Crude oil futures are down 1.42% at Rs 9814.0 per barrel.

NIFTY50 futures closed modestly higher by 0.33% at 23350 and are in a premium of 79 points compared to NIFTY50.
