Local stocks see modest losses

The key equity barometers traded with minor losses in early trade. Nifty opened at 24362 and hit a high of 24365 in first half hour of trade. Nifty Media and Nifty Consumer Durables shares advanced, while Nifty Metal and Nifty PSU Bank shares fell. At 09:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, edged lower by 207.07 points or 0.27% to 77,872.89. The Nifty 50 index lost 60.50 points or 0.25% to 24,335.35. The broader market outpaced the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index moved lower by 0.21% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index inched down 0.22%. The market breadth was fragile. On the BSE, 2091 shares gained and 2624 shares retreated. A total of 253 shares were unchanged. Nifty Media index advanced 1.22% to 1594. The index has moved higher by 3.94% in last one month and moved lower by 5.24% over last one year. Zee Entertainmen, climbing 6.45%, led the gainers followed by Netwrk.18 Media, inching higher 0.34% and Tips Music, adding 0.33%, respectively. Out of 10 index constituents, 5 are reporting gains today. Nifty Consumer Durables index added 0.58% to 40538. The index has posted modest gains of 4.28% in last one month and edged higher by 8.78% over last one year. LG Electronics, moving higher 8.20%, led the gainers followed by Bata India, gaining 3.64% and Voltas, edging up 2.17%, respectively. Out of 13 index constituents, 7 are reporting gains today. Nifty Metal index edged lower by 0.81%. The index has edged up 3.43% in last one month and posted strong gains of 39.46% over last one year. Natl. Aluminium, retreating 5.78%, led the losers followed by Hindustan Copper, slipping 3.52% and Hindustan Zinc, losing 2.90%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 12 are reporting loss today. In NIFTY500, LG Electronics is the top gainer today, spiking 8.20% to Rs 1708. The counter is marginally down 6.60% in last one year. It recorded an average volume quantity of 98111.67 in last five sessions compared to 39454.21 over last one month. Asian markets were marginally lower on Friday. China’s Shanghai composite is marginally lower by 0.05%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is trading lower by 0.96%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is ahead by 0.57%.
