The key domestic indices finished marginally lower. Nifty Metal, Nifty Realty and Nifty IT shares gained, while Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Media shares declined.

As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, moved lower by 171.72 points or 0.22% to 77,369.11. The Nifty 50 index edged lower by 32.95 points or 0.14% to 24,219.05. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex inched up by 0.58% and 0.60%, respectively.

The broader market outpaced the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index posted modest losses of 0.01% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index lost 0.17%.

The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 2374 shares rose and 2924 shares fell. A total of 239 shares were unchanged.

Tata Steel Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 378.01 lakh shares and posted a sharp rise of 107.33% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has declined around 2.26% in last one-month and has spiked 13.31% over last one year.

Eternal Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 218.93 lakh shares and saw a sharp decline of 19.86% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has surged around 14.45% in last one-month and has gained modestly 1.93% over last one year.

The Nifty Metal index increased by 1.59% to 13381.45 today. The index is modestly higher by 1.78% in last one week and has moved higher by 4.35% over last one month. It is sharply higher by around 38.75% in last one year. Welspun Corp Ltd (up 4.21%), Steel Authority of India Ltd (up 3.57%), JSW Steel Ltd (up 2.57%), Hindalco Industries Ltd (up 2.37%) and National Aluminium Company Ltd (up 2.24%) moved up.

The Nifty PSU Bank index slipped by 0.93% to 8539.75 today. The index is slightly lower by 1.36% in last one week and has inched higher by 0.95% over last one month. It jumped by 21.80% in last one year. Bank of Baroda (down 2.23%), Canara Bank (down 2.05%), Punjab & Sind Bank (down 0.94%), State Bank of India (down 0.88%) and Indian Bank (down 0.74%) traded lower.

The Nifty Media index moved lower by 0.58% to 1603.3 today. The index has gained modestly by 1.42% in last one week and has risen slightly by 4.90% over last one month. It is down 1.57% in last one year. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (down 2.80%), Nazara Technologies Ltd (down 1.81%), Tips Music Ltd (down 1.11%), Hathway Cable & Datacom Ltd (down 0.84%) and Sun TV Network Ltd (down 0.70%) moved lower.

The Nifty Metal index rose for a third session in a row today. Welspun Corp Ltd (up 4.21%), Steel Authority of India Ltd (up 3.57%), JSW Steel Ltd (up 2.57%), Hindalco Industries Ltd (up 2.37%) and National Aluminium Company Ltd (up 2.24%) gained.
